Colouring the wood
We have stopped staining as standard, this out of consideration for the environment and to increase the freedom of choice for our customers.
Tidigare betsade vi våra möbler som standard när man ville sätta färg på träet, nu använder vi pigmenterad klarlack i stället.
Why?
Staining is when you dissolve pigment in a liquid and brush or spray paint the wood with it. The idea is for the liquid to penetrate the wood and take the pigment with it. This works best when using solvents or spirits. The staining is always followed by a clear coat to get a surface that resists wear and does not stain. We switched to water-based paints several years ago for reasons of the environment and working environment, and water-based stains do not penetrate the wood as well.
Fördelarna
When you stain and then want to renovate the furniture, it is a bit of work to get rid of all clear coating to get a good result.
To renovate a pigmented clear lacquer, we just need to roughen the surface and apply more pigmented clear lacquer. It is even possible to change color in this step. The pigmented lacquers are thus well suited for future renovations for the furniture's second and third lives.
On wood with strong grain and structure such as ash and oak, you do not fill in the surface when using pigmented clear lacquer. This makes it possible to renovate and maintain the wood feel in the furniture,
The result is even and quite opaque, the problem that exists with wood species such as birch that tends to become unevenly coloured when stained does not exist.
The pigment is mixed in the amount needed, unlike special stains that come in a minimum quantity from a paint lab. This means that there is minimal waste of resources and chemical waste.
Valfriheten
